My bike needs a new home! [Dec. 11th, 2009|04:54 pm]

vancouver

[no_say]
[Current Location |vancouver]

Dear people!

I'm leaving Vancouver and I'd like to sell my bike. I realize that it is not the best time of the year to sell bikes but I might as well give it a try. It's a nice Kuwahara Savage bike in good shape and it comes with a helmet, a lock, tools and lights - for only $100
Is anybody interested or does anybody know anybody who knows anybody who might be interested?
Here's the link to the add on Craigslist: http://vancouver.de.craigslist.ca/van/bik/1503413731.html

Thank you!

FS: 2 student tickets to Vivaldi's Four Seasons at Chan Centre UBC- $30 [Dec. 11th, 2009|04:45 pm]

ubc

[banoonie]
This is not wholly UBC related, except for the location of the venue. I'm looking to sell 2 student tickets to Vivaldi's Four Seasons at the Chan Centre for Dec 19 at 8 pm. I will be out of town and can't go :( Seats are Upper Circle E 360 and 359. They are terrible seats, not gonna lie, but I planned to go more for music than for sights. you will need your student ID!

I paid $42.50 and am asking $30 or your best offer.

Reply to this thread if interested! thx!!

Looking to sell 2 student tickets to Vivaldi's Four Seasons on Dec 19 at 8 pm at the Chan Centre at UBC. I really wanted to go but will be out of town. The seats are Upper Circle E360+359. They are horrible seats but I figured it was more about the music than anything. :P And also, because they're student tickets you will need student ID.

I paid $42.50for both. Asking for $30 for both, or your best offer.

looking to volunteer on christmas day or night [Dec. 11th, 2009|04:32 pm]

vancouver

[orphantree]
i have no plans for christmas this year, which is weird, but in any case i'd like to volunteer at a soup kitchen, or something similar that serves a meal for the homeless on christmas.

as far as i can tell, union gospel is having their christmas dinner on dec 12. i tried calling the salvation army, but their offices are closed for the weekend.

any other suggestions? or is there a different type of event on christmas that i could volunteer for? (ie. handing out blankets, or something)

thanks vancouver!

You have:

  • tape measure

  • pencil

  • skill saw

  • sand paper, etc.

Experience and references required.

I have:

  • 4 top hanging sliding (closet) doors

  • 1 bedroom door

  • workshop on-site

(Each door needs about 1/2" more/less trimmed.)

If you have experience trimming doors, or know someone who does, please email me, or comment to this entry.

Thanks Vancouver!

:) Nancy

menorah? [Dec. 11th, 2009|02:35 pm]

vancouver

[brooklebee]
Hi Vancouver,

I'd like to buy a menorah (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Menorah_%28Hanukkah%29) this afternoon, hopefully somewhere on the west side (I live in the Dunbar neighborhood). Has anyone seen them somewhere? Any suggestions for where you might think I could find one?

Thanks!

Hapless Expat Seeks Helpful Answers! [Dec. 11th, 2009|03:28 pm]

vancouver

[herlittlepony]
Hello, Vancouver; it's me again. I'm a U.S. girl coming to Vancouver in January, to go to UBC for a year for grad school. Anyway! I have some questions and I will certainly get in touch with UBC's International House (in fact I think there's a big introduction thing in January) but I also always see good advice in this community; I asked about where to rent a few months ago and got great responses, so, here I am, requesting help again.

a. Once I get to Vancouver I want to deposit my financial aid, etc., into a new Canadian bank account, while also retaining my Bank of America account. I used to visit my friend in Toronto over the summers and always just used my BoA account with no problem, but obviously, since I'll be there for a year, I know I need a good bank account nearby. I think Bank of America Canada has one branch in Vancouver, but I was wondering if anyone had any good suggestions for my new bank? Is there one with especially helpful or friendly or otherwise advantageous branches? Especially if they're in the area of the UBC campus ... that's where I'll be most of the time, I imagine.

b. I'm also wondering about how to manage phones. This is embarrassing but I am not a very big phone-user, i.e., not involved at all. I have a phone on a family plan with Cingular which I've had FOREVER. I'm really-really-really trying to be super-frugal, so I'm not too eager to get a new phone-plan in Vancouver, especially since it would be so short-lived. I'm planning on using Skype for calling my boyfriend and family, etc., back in the U.S., but, if you're an American living temporarily in Canada, how do you manage phones? I need a number to give to Canadian people, although I'm definitely more of an emailer in general. My boyfriend suggested buying a pre-paid phone in Canada and keeping calls short. Is this the best bet?

I know I sound utterly naive and helpless, like an eleven-year-old. Thank you for choking back your scornful laughter and helping a girl out!

mini-burger buns? [Dec. 11th, 2009|02:09 am]

vancouver

[dagnabitt]
Greetings to the Collective Mind of Vancouver LJers,

I regret that I only know of a half-dozen bakeries in addition to supermarket bread counters. My limited knowledge is insufficient for my current task of finding diminutive buns for mini-burgers. If there is a bakery that supplies miniature buns or if you can suggest a trendy or small-time bakery that might be a lead, I would appreciate it.

Ideal area: Vancouver-Burnaby, but not exclusively so.

Pocket Watches? [Dec. 11th, 2009|12:21 am]

vancouver

[x_tokyoblaque]
Could all of you other Vancouverites point me into a good pawn shop or time-telling place? I'm looking for a few pocket watches as Christmas presents for the friends of the male variety.

Goody points if it's relatively cheap!

(Also, if you have any other good Christmas gifts for guys that can be considered pretty 'nifty' leave a comment!

Thanks in advance~

Help a guy out? [Dec. 10th, 2009|11:48 pm]

What I desperately need: 2 tickets to Do Make Say Think on December 13th (Sunday).
What I will do for them: trade 2 tickets for Decemeber 12th (Saturday) or just pay for them, plus whatever you think of as a reasonable convenience charge.

Friend's coming in from Perth for the concert, but she ordered tickets for the wrong day, we're trying to work it out last minute.

Does anyone know where I can buy old fabric (at a good price of course)? More specifically, I'm looking for large, silk/handkerchief-like fabric.

Thanks

Car insurance [Dec. 9th, 2009|01:47 pm]

Hey guys! I am looking for recommended brokers for car insurance. We are just looking for the Basic Autoplan. Basically, just looking for somebody that won't screw us over too too badly if something does happen. I'm in Surrey, but would be willing to travel.

Thanks!
